WhatsApp image sizes guide
WhatsApp is aggressive about compression because it is optimised for slow connections. Preparing images beforehand gives you more control over the result.

Status and profile
Status uses the familiar 1080 × 1920 vertical canvas. Profile photos are square — 640 × 640 is plenty — and displayed as a circle.
Sending without compression
Sending a photo as a document preserves the original file, but it loses the inline preview. For normal sharing, a pre-resized 1080 px JPG usually survives WhatsApp's re-encode better than a 12 MP original.
